It is a humbling experience to be asked to be the Honored Cancer Survivor for the American Cancer Society’s 30th Crystal Ball. Cancer has intersected my life and Marquette’s in many ways - serving as the Chairs for the 3rd Crystal Ball, having two parents who died from cancer, a son-in-law and best friend who were previous Honorees and Survivors and serving on the board of the Hospital Authority of Columbus Regional that helped bring John B. Amos Cancer Center to life, and now a cancer survivor still in active treatment - I never imagined being in this place - in this ‘club.’
I am the direct recipient of ground-breaking, research-based treatment protocols, right here in Columbus, Georgia at John B. Amos Cancer Center. Navigating the maze of insurance; living with gut-wrenching fear and adjustments to your daily life - we still come together at the Crystal Ball to CELEBRATE. To celebrate the preciousness of life and the protocols, medicine and treatments that prolong ours to be with those who mean the most to us. Having cancer re-orders your life and its priorities.
I hope you will consider putting celebrating with me and Marquette at the Crystal Ball on March 10 near the top of your ‘I want to do this’ list. Come to honor the memory of friends, to rejoice with those of us in the fight of our lives, come to celebrate living and conquering this pervasive disease that seems to touch us all in some way.
Here’s to CELEBRATING LIFE TOGETHER!
